ROCKFORD, Mich. -- The Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding in Rockford provides therapy to more than 185 kids with special needs, and to raise money to provide these services to children that can't afford them the center hosted an special Easter event Saturday.
"It's not just an egg hunt it gives the kids a chance to visit the therapy horses we have here," said Equest Center Executive Director Kathy Ryan. "To have pictures taken with the horses that are dressed up as bunnies, a full petting zoo, wagon rides, arts and crafts for the kids beautiful music that you hear from Andro that is filling the bar and it really gives people a chance to be here at Equest and see what our center is all about."
This is the fifteenth year the center has hosted an Easter celebration where families could come out, hunt for eggs and interact with the many animals at the center.
"Well we came out last year and it was great! Very welcoming," said event attendee Courtney Wayer. "Lots of cool things for all the little ones to do. All of the animals are great especially for the cranky ones."
The funds raised at this event helps to send children whose families can't afford to the program to the center.
"These kids, this is critical for them to be able to participate and funds that are raised from this event and even just spreading the word that Equest is indeed here and needing volunteer service all of those kinds of things as well help keep our center going," Ryan said. "Without all of this our center wouldn't be able to go and help serve the kids."
