CROCKERY TOWNSHIP, Mich.  — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver killed in a one-vehicle crash along I-96 on Thursday night as Shane Bloomberg of Muskegon Township.

Sheriff’s investigators say their preliminary investigation indicates the 37-year-old’s vehicle was heading westbound around 7:30 p.m., when it left the expressway. It slammed into the face of the 112th Avenue bridge wall. There were no other passengers in his vehicle.

A Sheriff’s sergeant says Bloomberg was declared dead at the scene. The investigation continues into what caused the crash.

Besides the Sheriff’s Office, other responders to the scene included members of the Crockery Township Fire/Rescue and North Ottawa Community Hospital EMS.

The right lane of westbound I-96 near 112th Avenue remained blocked off until about 9:30 p.m. , while police investigated on-scene.

There were no other reported injuries.
