PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – One person suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 131 Friday morning.

Michigan State Police say the crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. 131 at Post Drive.

Troopers say that a Grand Cherokee was stopped on the roadway behind a semi-truck due to a traffic back when a full-sized van slammed into the Cherokee, pushing it into the truck.

The driver of the Cherokee was trapped and rescue crews needed to extricate him from the wreckage. He was flown to the hospital by Aero Med with life-threatening injuries.

The van driver suffered minor injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 131 were closed for about two hours.

The incident is being forwarded to the Kent County Prosecutor for possible charges.
