COLOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 2-month-old child.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the 5100 Little Paw Paw Lake Road in the Ravine-View Estates in Coloma Township on Monday on a medical call. The child was taken to Watervliet Hospital and later transferred to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. The child died Tuesday at about 5:30 p.m.

Responding deputies found the incident to be suspicious, though authorities said preliminary results from an autopsy were inconclusive.   Additional medical testing needs to be conducted in the case, officials said in a release.

Police said a man was initially taken into custody but has since been released. FOX 17 is not naming him at this time because he has not been charged in the case.

The death remains under investigation.  The results of the additional testing will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.
