LOWELL, Mich. -- A West Michigan mother accused of stealing from an area store and then trying to run over the store employee has turned herself into police.

Police in Lowell say this is the second time the woman, who has not yet been identified, has been caught stealing from the store before.

When confronted by store employees, the suspect allegedly ran out of the store with her two toddlers.

She nearly ran over a store employee who presumably was trying to stop her.

Police believe the suspect was last seen driving a tan or pewter colored Buick four door car, possibly a Regal.

So why is the word “mom” used in the headline, and throughout the story? Her status as a mother is irrelevant. She is a f***ing criminal. Stop using sympathetic words like “mom” when writing about criminals. If this had been a man, he would only have been identified as such, his status as a father would not have been reported. I mean, if all things are equal, then lets dispense with sympathetic treatment and writing.
