WEST MICHIGAN- While we've seen a few snowflakes already this season, we've avoided measurable snowfall so far to this point. That's about to change by the end of this week.

Over the last few years, snow around this time is not out of the question. In fact, we've seen it a bit later than what we're expecting this year. This is not really indication of how bad the winter is or anything either (see 2014.)

Snow is set to begin before/during rush hour Friday morning. While it's cold enough to snow, the roadway surfaces will be a bit warm to allow it to stick initially. Grassy surfaces will cool down a little bit quicker though, so it'll stick there first.

Snow continues into the evening and overnight hours.

We can expect 1-3" of measurable snowfall by the end of Friday...mainly on grassy surfaces only. We may see another 1 to 2" along/west of U.S. 131 Friday night/Saturday morning as a lake-effect component kicks in. In fact, a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for most of our area from 1 A.M. Friday through 7 A.M. Saturday. The heaviest snow will fall along/west of U.S. 131 through Saturday morning with slippery roads and perhaps some icing.

Make sure to give yourself a few extra minutes on both Friday and Saturday morning.
