LYONS, Mich-- A missing boy in Ionia County was found safe Sunday evening.

Dispatchers shared the news regarding Kaiven Simon around 10:30 p.m.

The 8-year-old was reported missing earlier in the night after officials had said he was last seen in the area of Bridge Street near Baldwin & Libhart.

Investigators tell FOX 17 Kaiven went riding his bike around 5:30 p.m. with the family dog. His mother called 911 around 6.

After more than four hours of searching, investigators found Kaiven.

“My understanding is he was found next to a tree. My best description that I’ve been given is behind the fire barn along the river. My understanding is that he was cold and scared," said Ionia County Sheriff Charlie Knoll. "He’s being checked out but no injuries and doing the best that he could with the situation that he was put in.”"

A helicopter had been brought in to assist with the search.

Investigators say they're happy with how the efforts ended.

“It’s very good. A lot of times, these things don’t end this way but it you know, with the effort that all these agencies did, all these people, all the firefighters, police, MSP, the helicopter, calling them on an evening, they came out, it was a great effort and a great end to what could have been a tragic story,” said Sheriff Knoll.
