WEST MICHIGAN -- Heavy lake effect snow is posing issues for commuters across West Michigan Friday, causing over 100 schools to delay or cancel classes.
Eastbound I-196 in Kent County was closed shortly after 5:30 a.m. due to a jackknifed semi and a pickup in the median; the highway reopened around 7:30 a.m.
In Muskegon County, our FOX 17 Weather Tracker showed roads are snow-covered and slick. Dispatchers said they took numerous calls Friday morning for slide-offs and were advising drivers to take it slow.
The intersection of Riley Street at 136th Avenue was closed after a truck and trailer wrapped around a telephone pole, bringing down the traffic signal. After the pole was replaced and signal repaired, the intersection was opened around 10 a.m.
