BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Battle Creek Police have identified two “persons of interest” in the January 27th homicide of Wendell C. Daniels of Battle Creek.

Battle Creek police tell FOX 17 that a 31-year-old man was arrested in Kentwood Thursday evening on unrelated charges. And a 21-year-old man is “still being sought for questioning” in the Daniels homicide.

Police confirm the 23-year-old Daniels was found in a car last Sunday morning. He was unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Police say he had been shot by someone in a passing vehicle on S. Kendall Street, south of W. Dickman Road. Daniels later died at a hospital.

Police say a handgun appeared to have been used “as pistol-caliber shell casings were recovered at the scene.”

The 31-year-old was arrested in connection with a January 20th shooting at Sam’s Party Store, also on Dickman Road. Police say they are still searching for a second suspect, a 21-year-old from Battle Creek.

Two other men who were injured at the scene are recovering.

The Calhoun County Prosecutor is reviewing the case for possible charges. The Michigan State Police 6th District Fugitive Team has assisted the Battle Creek Police Department with the investigation.

Says the BCPD in a news release: “We are also looking to see if this shooting is related to any of the other recent shots fired incidents in the city, including one on Laura Lane Sunday morning and on Sherman Rd Monday afternoon”.
