Man in critical condition after Cooper Twp. shooting, suspect dead

COOPER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man is in critical condition after a shooting in Cooper Township.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting between 7-7:30 a.m. Tuesday at a workplace in Cooper Township.

The victim was found with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Bronson Hospital and is reported to be in very critical condition. Family has identified the victim as Brent Hook, who owns the business where the shooting took place.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff said they were able to identify the suspect and believed the suspect was no longer in the county. At 12:30 p.m., investigators said that the suspect was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators are working to determine if the suspect and victim knew each other.

The emergency alert system was activated in the surrounding area and a nearby school was placed on lockdown for a short time.
