SPRING LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich.  --  Firefighters from three departments have knocked down a mobile-home fire that broke out Friday night after an explosion.

Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority tells FOX 17 the home at 17114 Superior Drive in Spring Lake was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 7:54 p.m. Friday. The location is west of 148th Avenue and north of M-104.

Spring Lake Township Fire Chief Brian Sipe told FOX 17 at the scene the fire was largely knocked down by 8:25 p.m. Friday. There was no early word on what started the fire. Some people inside evacuated.

Chief Sipe says one man was injured and taken to the Mercy Health Hackley hospital campus in Muskegon. In a late-Friday night news release, Chief Sipe said "the occupant of the home was found outside of the home with severe burns over his body...the cause of the fire is still under investigation, although there does appear to have been some type of an explosion within the residence. The home is a total loss."

Responding fire departments included crews from Spring Lake and Crockery townships, as well as the City of Ferrysburg. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and the North Ottawa Community Hospital EMS.
