ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An air emergency ended up with nobody injured at a rural Ottawa County airport Sunday afternoon.

At 12:52 p.m. Sunday, a pilot reported that he  was circling over the Ottawa Executive Airport at 5923 Byron Road in Zeeland Township and that the front landing gear was not deploying. The aircraft contained only the pilot.

Ottawa County dispatchers reported an air emergency, and firefighters, an ambulance and other rescue personnel were called to the scene.

The plane landed safely on its rear landing gear at the airport at 1:03 p.m. The pilot, a 56-year-old Zeeland Township man, was reported to be OK and said he was not injured.

The airplane was a 1990 Glass Air single-propeller, which sustained some minor damage to its nose area.

All responding units were then downgraded.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration.
