OTSEGO TOWNSHIP, Mich.  — Police set up a perimeter in Allegan County after responding Wednesday night to what they initially thought was a domestic squabble. The situation came to an end with no injuries – but with the suspect still on the loose.

It happened at a house on M-89/Lincoln Street, just west of downtown Otsego, beginning shortly before 6 p.m.  Police began to clear the scene a little before 8 p.m. But Allegan County Sheriff’s Sergeant Morgan Sullivan told FOX 17 the suspect still had not been caught as of late Wednesday night.

It involved an ex-boyfriend who police say got into his ex-girlfriend’s house through a “self-contained” basement.

“He is presumably unarmed and hiding from law enforcement,” said Sgt. Sullivan in an email Wednesday night.

The man had a gun and asked his ex-girlfriend to pull the trigger, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“Deputies from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Otsego PD and Plainwell DPS, arrived on scene and maintained a perimeter.  The caller was unsure if the suspect was still in the basement or fled the area.  Camera surveillance attached to the residence does not show the suspect re-entering the basement.

“The sheriff’s office robot was deployed into the  basement however was unable to complete a full clearance of the basement area.  A K-9 was then deployed into the basement with no indications the suspect was still there.  The basement was then cleared by deputies.  A firearm described by the caller was located as well as suspected narcotics.

Assisting sheriff’s deputies at the scene were members of the Plainwell Department of Public Safety, Otsego Police Department and Life MS.

Police say their report to the Allegan County Prosecutor’s Office will specify multiple charges for the suspect.

His name has not been released yet, nor has the woman. There was no indication what the initial squabble entailed that led to the ordeal.
