MIDDLEVILLE, Mich. — Deputies do not believe there was any foul play involved in a weekend drowning.

The Barry County Sheriff’s Department says it happened in Middleville, off Rivers Edge Lane south of Parmalee Road and west of Whitneyville Road.

Deputies responded to a report of a man’s body in the river just after 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. They were able to retrieve his body and pull him back to shore.

That man has been identified as an 87-year-old from the area, though his name is being withheld until deputies get a chance to notify his family.

Authorities do not yet know how he ended up in the water, though they are not treating the case as suspicious at this time.
