    WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Census Bureau is not proposing a separate count of LGBTQ Americans for its 2020 Census. The category had been sought by gay rights advocates. The bureau counts Americans according to race, gender and other characteristics. In its proposal to Congress, the people-counting agency is not asking for a separate category for LGBTQ Americans.     Woman saved at Kalamazoo YMCA

    KALAMAZOO, Mich.– Police say a woman was hospitalized after suffering a medical emergency at the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo Friday evening. A 60-year-old Parchment woman was found unconscious near the pool at the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo around 8 p.m Friday night. A YMCA nurse and lifeguard reportedly administered CPR and after 40 minutes of life-saving efforts, the woman regained a pulse. She was then transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment.   • ‘Rally against Islamophobia’ happening today in Kalamazoo

    KALAMAZOO, Mich.– There will be a rally against Islamophobia in Kalamazoo today. According to one of the organizers, the group plans to march for Muslim, immigrant, and refugee rights. Representatives from the Kalamazoo and Portage communities as well as religious leaders from the area are expected to speak at the event. The rally will be at Bronson Park, and will be from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. For more information, check out the event’s facebook page.

    MUSKEGON, Mich.– The Greater Muskegon Jaycees’ Snowfest returns this weekend after taking a year off. Today is the last day to check out the event.   • Car struck house, then fled scene

    PORTAGE, Mich.– Police believe that a car struck the front of a Portage home and then drove away. Based on evidence at the scene, police say that an unknown vehicle left the road and struck the front of a home on Stanley Avenue Friday evening. The vehicle, described as a dark colored SUV fled the scene before to police arrived. No one was home at the time of the incident, and it remains under investigation.   • Grand Rapids man robbed at gunpoint early Saturday

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– Police say that a Grand Rapids man was robbed at gunpoint  by three men early Saturday morning. It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the area of Jefferson Ave SE and Highland Street SE. Police have no further description of the suspects, and it is unclear whether or not the victim was injured.     SODUS TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man was held at gunpoint in his own home after two armed men forced their way inside early Saturday morning. The suspects entered the victim’s home on Alma Drive after they knocked insistently and the homeowner opened the door. They then forced the homeowner to give them money and threatened him if he failed to do so.     Teenager with stolen gun arrested in stream in Kalamazoo

    KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 19-year-old was arrested early Sunday morning following what police called a ‘disturbance’ at Little Darlings Gentleman’s Club where the suspect tried running from officers. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the owner of that business called police around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after he noticed one of the men involved in an argument had a gun in his waistband.
