    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police are investigating a shooting that left one person injured early Wednesday morning. It happened at around 2:00 a.m. in the area of Horton and Griggs in the city’s southeast side. According to police, the gunshot victim suffered an injury to his or her leg and is expected to be okay.   • 2-year-old dead after being hit by car at family birthday gathering

    CASS COUNTY, Mich. — A toddler is dead after police say the child was hit by a car during a family birthday party in Cass County. It happened Sunday night off of Old 205 in Mason Township. Sheriff Deputies reported that a family member was pulling into the driveway, striking a 2-year-old child.  Other family members began performing CPR until help arrived.   • Grand Rapids man killed in overnight shooting, no suspects in custody

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Asonte Koppenhoffer-Smart, 21, was killed just after midnight on Friday from a gunshot wound to his upper torso. It happened at around 12:20 a.m. near 800 Dickinson St. SE. Officers on patrol in the area had heard multiple gunshots ring out. They would end up locating a Koppenhoffer-Smart inside a car. He was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive.     MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Two people — along with several exotic pets — managed to avoid injury in a house fire early Thursday morning. It happened at a home on Locust Court in Muskegon. When crews arrived, smoke and flames were seen coming from the home. Officials at the scene say two residents escaped safely.   • Two arrested in child death investigation

    KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Two people are in custody as an investigation into the death of a child takes shape in Kalamazoo. Police were called to the scene of a four-year-old child not breathing at a home on Mt. Olivet early Sunday around 5 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the young victim, who they say had apparently suffered some unknown physical trauma. “Lifesaving measures were attempted at that time,” said Capt.     AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Jack McCloskey, the general manager who built the Detroit Pistons’ “Bad Boys” championship teams, died Thursday.
