PAVILLION TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The father who took his 5-day-old infant after allegedly assaulting the mother got away from police and was caught a little later, but not before causing some damage.

The baby was found unharmed at the maternal grandmother's home on 7 1/2 Mile Road in Newton Township. While police waited for the baby's mother to come, the suspect came back. The 25-year-old drove off, hitting an empty Michigan State Police patrol car on his way out.

When he was found later by another Michigan State Trooper near Pavillion Township, the man started to pull over then suddenly drove his Chevy Tahoe backwards into the hood of the patrol vehicle. At this point the Tahoe and the patrol car were stuck together and the suspect was arrested without further incident.

One of the Michigan State Troopers has minor injuries from the crash. The suspect is being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges from MSP and the Kalamzaoo Sheriff's Department.
