GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — In addition to restaurants being given the green light to resume limited indoor dining, movie theaters can also offer in-door concessions starting Feb. 1.

These lifted COVID-19 restrictions come with Gov. Whitmer's latest mandate, allowing in-door dining at 25% capacity.

"We're excited to be on this road back towards a more new normal movie experience," said Emily Loeks, Studio Park's Celebration Cinema's director of community affairs. "This is done one of the most challenging years in our history."

Movie theaters were initially closed in March due to the pandemic and re-opened in October, only to be closed again in November.

Most recently, movie theaters opened on December 21, but concessions were not available.

Now, in compliance with Governor Whitmer's latest restrictions mandate, movie goers will be able to order their favorite concessions, including theater popcorn, candy, drinks, and more.

Loeks says their team Celebration Cinema is thrilled to safely offer concessions once again, in addition to the various other safety procedures they practice.

"Our theater will be continuing with cinema safe protocols that includes spacing of groups, the distance both in our lobbies and in our theater auditoriums. We have fabulous HVAC and high ceilings and so we really do have some advantages for indoor spaces," said Loeks. "But, as you settle into your seat, along with restaurants and other kinds of venues that serve food you'll now be able to enjoy theater munchies, your popping popcorn, all of those things. Then we'll just ask that you re-mask when you're finished eating."

Celebration Cinema has also gotten rid of the online ticket fee to reduce crowds and lines in their lobbies.

Loeks says while it's not blockbuster movie season, there are still many great indie and critically acclaimed films to enjoy.

So, grab your mask, concessions and enjoy the movie!
