Halloween is right around the corner and things can get a bit spooky! Just in time to get us to get in the Halloween spirit here's an experiment making some floating ghosts! Plus with this experiment we will showcase convection and density in action!
Here is a list of what you need to get started:
- tea bags
- scissors
- markers
- lighter
- safety goggles
- tin foil (optional)
Floating ghosts!!
This experiment is all about the heat! Our floating ghosts are working the same way as a hot air balloon or even a rocket! Heat rises right?
The fire heats up the air inside the cylinder, and the air then expands, causing it to become lighter than the air around it and lift off! We are showing off convection when we heat up the air, and then that heat is forcing its density to change.
