Jamie Sherrod is a Detroit native who joined the FOX17 team in February 2022. Although she is from Michigan, she has never really ventured over to the west side of the state and is looking forward to finding out if the west side is really the best side.
Jamie first discovered her love for broadcasting after taking on a journalism class in high school to fulfill an elective. She was later tasked with delivering the morning announcements and it was love at first broadcast.
After graduating from the University of Michigan-Flint, Jamie began her career at a small station in Alpena, MI where she wore many hats: a reporter, producer and anchor. While there, she helped create a fun segment called Field Trip Friday exploring Northern Michigan.
Jamie has spent the past four years telling stories in the Flint/Saginaw area as an Anchor and Reporter. She started as a morning anchor and traffic reporter, then later anchored the 9 a.m. show. Jamie also anchored weekend nights during her time there, which gave her the opportunity to get out in the field more during the week. She’s covered everything from the water crisis to a deadly home explosion that gained National attention, the 2020 presidential election, protests and the pandemic’s effect on local businesses and the community.
Jamie is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and is passionate about telling stories that matter, helping others and getting results.
When she’s not on-air Jamie enjoys cooking, trying different restaurants, traveling, and blogging. If you have any story ideas, she’d love to hear them! You can email her at Jamie.Sherrod@fox17online.com or follow her on social media.
