Laura Velasquez

Meteorologist

Meteorologist Laura Velasquez joined the FOX 17 Weather Team in February of 2021, and is thrilled to be back home in West Michigan!

Laura was born and raised in West Michigan and has always known she wanted to be a meteorologist. When she was young, she would watch the Weather Channel and think, "I can do that," and at that moment, she set her goal to become an on-camera meteorologist.

She is a graduate of Jenison High and went on to major in meteorology at Central Michigan University.

Her first meteorology job was at WOODTV in Grand Rapids. After spending seven years there, she moved to Denver to work for the FOX affiliate, KDVR. Following that, she took a job at a national network back east. That's where she met her now-husband. The two were married in October of 2017.

Throughout her career she always knew when the time was right she'd find her way back home, and now Laura and her husband are excited to call West Michigan home once again. In her free time, Laura is an avid swimmer, cyclist and runner who loves to participate in races and triathlons.
