Back-to-school tech for elementary students

Back to School may be very different this fall from what it looked like last year, and it appears technology is something we're relying on even more heavily.

Verizon's David Weissmann, a dad of three kids, talks about some of the top tech picks and tips for back-to-school students.

Verizon’s exclusive GizmoWatch 2 is the summer accessory for fitness – and safety. Real-time location and geo-fencing allow you to stay on top of the GizmoWatch 2’s location right from a guardian’s paired smartphone using the GizmoHub app. Set up GPS boundaries for playtime outside and receive alerts when your child exceeds them. Kids can use GizmoWatch 2’s fun fitness tracker to count steps and parents can set encouraging goals.

The Google Pixel Buds with a wireless charging case are ergonomically designed and come with three ear tip sizes. The long-range Bluetooth lets you use these buds up to 100 yards away from your phone in case you need to pace and think. Want some language learning? With the assistance of your Google Pixel Buds, you can also easily understand someone who doesn’t speak your language. You can press and hold the earbuds for assistance.

Want a great smartphone learning device? Check out the Samsung Galaxy S20 5G UW - great in-home, out in the field, or wherever a learning opportunity might exist. Whether you want to zoom in from far away or magnify the details of close-up objects, the new 30x Space Zoom does so with impressive power and clarity (and safely distanced). And you can share your shots using ultra-fast 5G. Example: You can ID a bug quickly that you just spotted in the wild (or your backyard) via the iNaturalistapp, a project of the National Geographic Society and California Academy of Sciences.

Plus with a new device purchase, Verizon is offering Tech Coach for the first 30 days FREE. Get personalized, U.S.-based technical support, featuring experts in Verizon devices and consumer electronics. If you're having an issue with your phone or virtually any device that connects to it, you can contact Tech Coach for help. Tech Coach also provides digital tools within the Tech Coach app, including customized device tips and tricks to help you learn how to get the most out of your device.

Also, while we’re all facing individual choices about e-learning and back-to-school prep and shopping, don’t be intimidated by looking for new tech and great homework devices online. At Verizon, appointments can be made online or through the My Verizon app. For your safety, there are in-store enhancements, including Curbside pickup available in select locations, in-store pickup for online orders, and touchless checkout. While you’re shopping, check out devices that help track your family whereabouts, like Smart Family locator tracking.
