The recent snowfall is a welcome sight at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute. All of the great outdoor activities like snowshoeing and cross country skiing are great ways to enjoy the winter, but there's something new added to the list to get excited about.

Pierce Cedar Creek Institute recently opened a new ice rink. The rink will be open every day, from dawn to dusk, and participants must wear their own skates and adhere to state COVID-19 guidelines.

Free winter activities include free snowshoe rentals in February, and free hiking on trails every day, from dawn to dusk.

There will also be a Snowman Making Contest this winter. Snowman building kits include everything to make your own snowmen such as carrots, apricots, dried figs, pine cones, and sticks. The kits also include snowman soup-making materials. Kits are available every day, dawn to dusk at the southside restroom area of the Visitor Center.

One contest winner will receive a $20 gift card to the Institute gift shop.

Lastly, the Storywalk book is free on the Black Walnut Trail for the month.

Pierce Cedar Creek Institute is located at 701 W. Cloverdale Rd. in Hastings.
