Spectrum Health resumes total joint replacement surgeries

Now that hospitals and medical centers are open for business once again, patients have begun to return for elective and other non-emergency procedures. At Spectrum Health Orthopedics that means joint replacement surgeries have resumed.

Dr. Chris Sherry from Spectrum Health Orthopedics joined the Morning Mix on Zoom to talk about joint replacement surgery.

Joint replacement is considered major surgery and is the last line of treatment when less invasive options have failed. But is also considered very successful, with as many as 95 percent of joint replacement patients reporting high or very high satisfaction rates when considering pain relief, improved mobility, and enhanced quality of life.

Candidates for joint replacement surgery have severe joint pain, stiffness, swelling, muscle weakness, and limited range of motion.

After surgery, Spectrum Health Center for Joint Replacement supports patients throughout the entire joint replacement surgery process. In some cases, patients go home the day of surgery.
