NILES, Mich. — An 8 -year-old boy was rescued from the Dowagiac River after his kayak flipped over Saturday evening.
He and his mother were paddling the river near Arthur Dodd Memorial Park when the strength of the current caught the little boy's kayak and dumped him into the water.
The boy was found 20 feet from shore holding onto a submerged tree in the fast moving water. Cass County Deputies and Fire Fighters went into the river and pulled the boy to safety.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department tells FOX 17 the boy was wearing a life jacket and was taken to Lakeland Niles Hospital for minor injuries.
