(WXYZ) — During a press conference Friday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said the state is making "great strides" in its COVID vaccine distribution efforts.

Gov. Whitmer said the State of Michigan ships out received vaccines immediately, and that the state is now averaging more than 20,000 shots in arms daily. She notes that the state's dashboard reflecting vaccine distribution could have discrepancies due to the timing of the process.
"The State of Michigan has pushed out every single vaccine that we have received," said Gov. Whitmer, adding that the state ranks 5th in the nation for vaccine distribution efforts.
She said that the state is receiving about 60,000 vaccines a week from Pfizer while Moderna vaccines bypass them and ship directly to CVS and Walgreens to be administered each week across 207 locations.
Whitmer called once again on the federal government for a strategy to be put in place to help speed along the process.
"We still need a national strategy . . . we’re building this as states," she said.
She added, "we need to get more vaccines into the State of Michigan, so we can deploy them."
