31,424 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 31,424.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 633 from yesterday, when there were 30,791 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 768 new cases.

The state says there have been 2,391 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 83 from yesterday, when there were 2,308 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 81 new deaths.

Statewide, 3,237 people have recovered from the virus as of April 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 742,442 cases, and there have been 40,585 deaths — while 67,052 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
