35,291 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 35,291.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 1,325 from yesterday, when there were 33,966 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 999 new cases.

The state says there have been 2,977 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 164 from yesterday, when there were 2,813 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 113 new deaths.

Statewide, 3,237 people have recovered from the virus as of April 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 856,209 cases, and there have been 47,178 deaths — while 77,963 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
