52,350 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 52,350.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 435 from yesterday, when there were 51,915 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 773 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,017 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 102 from yesterday, when there were 4,915 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 24 new deaths.

Statewide, 28,234 people have recovered from the virus as of May 15. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,519,986 cases, and there have been 91,179 deaths — while 283,178 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
