72,502 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to to 72,502.

The number of cases increased 660 from yesterday, when there were 71,842 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 645 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,108 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 7 from yesterday, when there were 6,101 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 16 new deaths.

Statewide, 53,867 people have recovered from the virus as of July 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 3,612,045 cases, and there have been 138,`784 deaths — while 1,090,645 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
