WEST MICHIGAN — Meijer has begun rolling out COVID-19 vaccine clinics in many of it's stores across the state, including a location in Norton Shores that opened on Wednesday.

The clinics are only open to those who make an appointment. They are currently focusing on people 65 and older.

You can register in a few different ways— you can visit Meijer's website, call your local Meijer pharmacy or you can register via text message.

To register through text, all you have to do is text the word COVID to the number 75049. From there, they will send you a test message with followup instructions to complete the registration process.

“People have been asking us about the vaccine, when it was going to be out, when we were going to be able to have it,” said Eric Moore, a pharmacist a Meijer's Norton Shores store.

“Everything's going very smoothly, and people are really happy with the results, and ultimately that they're getting the vaccine.”

The clinic in Norton Shores opened up on Wednesday. They are currently aiming to do about 500 vaccinations a day.

"Through the last couple of weeks, we will have administered nearly 10,000 vaccines in the state of Michigan," said Frank Guglielmi, senior director of corporate communications for Meijer.

“Some clinics, we're handling up to 1,100 people a day, some about 500 a day. But we're working very quickly to get the vaccines that we're getting from the state administered to patients within usually 72 hours.”

Guglielmi says the plan is to continue rolling out additional clinics at stores throughout the state in the coming weeks and months.
