(WXYZ) — Two Michigan Republican Congressmen said they will object to the Electoral College certification when the U.S. House and Senate meet on Wednesday.
Rep. Tim Walberg, who represents Michigan's 7th District which includes Monroe County, and Rep. Jack Bergman, from Michigan's first district, said they will formally object to the certification process.
In a joint statement issued Monday, they said in part, "Americans deserve to know only legal votes are counted and reports regarding irregularities, fraud, and failure to follow election laws are thoroughly investigated. Poll challengers have raised valid concerns about election integrity across our Nation that brings into question the results of the 2020 election and puts faith in future elections in jeopardy
They are the latest Republican legislators to announce they will object to the certification. In all, about a dozen U.S. Senators and more than 100 U.S. Republican Representatives said they would object on Wednesday.
It's not clear how other Republican members of Congress from Michigan will vote. Reps. Bill Huizenga and John Moolenar both signed onto a lawsuit brought by Texas looking to overturn Michigan's election results, and two new members, Reps. Peter Meijer and Lisa McClain haven't said how they will vote. The Detroit Free Press reports it does appear McClain will object.
There has been no credible evidence of widespread voter fraud in Michigan, or across the country. President-elect Joe Biden won Michigan by more than 150,000 votes.
