Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said that Michigan State Police will enforce election laws if local county sheriffs do not.

Speaking during an interview on Showtime's "The Circus," Nessel was asked if she was worried about potential voter intimidation not being pursued by some law enforcement agencies.

It comes after Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf, in West Michigan, said he doesn't regret sharing a stage with one of the men charged in the alleged plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

"If you have a county sheriff who seems to be sympathetic to many of these organizations and we think they're not going to enforce these laws, then we'll get somebody else who will; Michigan State Police," Nessel said.

On Friday, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson banned the open carry of guns at polling places throughout the state.
