He served as president of the UAW from June 2014 through June 2018 before retiring, and was previously the Secretary-Treasurer of the union.
According to the complaint, Williams and several other union officials who were charged, as well as 3 unnamed officials, "did unlawfully, knowingly, and willfully combine, conspire, confederate, and agree with each other and with other individuals, both known and unknown, to embezzle union funds."
The complaint alleges that Williams accepted housing for himself in California and his friends, golf clothing, rounds of golf, liquor, cigars and more that were provided to him by Gary Jones, Vance Pearson, Edward "Nick" Robinson and the other unnamed officials.
According to the complaint, Williams accepted villas in Palm Springs, Calif. that cost tends of thousands of dollars and were all paid for with UAW dues, as well as a $6,000 round of golf.
Williams is the 15th person charged in the investigation. Federal agents raided Williams' home in August 2019.
Jones pleaded guilty to embezzlement, racketeering and tax evasion earlier this year, admitting to embezzling over $1 million in UAW dues, further racketeering and evading taxes. In February, Pearson pleaded guilty and Robinson pleaded guilty in March.
