FREMONT, Mich. — Jamie Sanborn from Pathfinder Elementary in Fremont, Michigan is this week’s Excellence in Education winner.
She will receive a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and Pathfinder Elementary receives a $500 grant.
Sanborn says she teaches because it makes a difference in not only her students’ lives, but also in the community.
“Sometimes they come to school and maybe it’s the only hug they’re getting all day long,” Sanborn said. “Maybe they need to have breakfast and they’re so excited to be there. Or maybe they’re coming in and they know they’re going to be celebrated. There’s so many different reasons why I do it and there are so many different reasons to put in the extra hours.”
