DETROIT, Mich. — Janice Smith is being honored for her Excellence in Education.
Shalonda Dennis, Smith's nominator, says, “When she walks into a room, Miss Smith just brightens everyone's mood with her presence and her personality.”
“I like to say that every one of the 600-plus students at that school, I treat them like they're my very own children,” says Miss Smith. “We try to expose them to new things so they can reach their goals in life.”
The Michigan Lottery has given Janice a $1,500 check, and her classroom at Fisher Magnet Lower Academy will receive a $500 grant.
