WYOMING, Mich — A man is in custody and expected to face charges after a deadly shooting in the parking lot of the Walmart on 54th Street in Wyoming.
It happened just before 5:30 p.m. Monday at the west end of the parking lot near the outdoor living center.
The victim, a 29-year-old man, was found in the parking lot. Medics arrived but were unable to revive him.
Police believe the victim was initially shot inside a vehicle in the parking lot.
Police say witnesses were able to give police a suspect and vehicle description. Officers tracked the suspect down within an hour at a residence in Grand Rapids. The man was found with that vehicle and arrested. A gun believed to be used in the crime was also located.
Police say the suspect and victim knew each other. The crime is not believed to be random.
Police say there is no threat to the public at this time.
This crime comes less than 24 hours after another shooting death in Wyoming.
“The unfortunate, tragic incident that happened last night and this one, albeit unrelated, are targeted incidents. These are not random acts that happened,” Wyoming police Lt. Brian Look told reporters. “Our officers and detectives have worked around the clock to make sure that these people are no longer a threat to our public. They have taken the people who are responsible for these crimes in to custody very quickly to make sure that our residents are safe.”
