Kent County Sheriff's Office investigating homicide at Cascade Township hotel

CASCADE TWP., Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is investigating a shooting at a Cascade Township hotel that killed 1 Grand Rapids.

Police were first dispatched just after 1 p.m. at the Clarion Inn and Suites at 4981 28th St. SE in Cascade Township, on a report of people fighting outside and someone being shot.

Deputies arrived to find Markel Williams, a 23-year-old Grand Rapids man, unresponsive in the parking lot.

Williams was transported via ambulance to the hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

KCSO has confirmed that there are two suspects at this time, who were observed running away from the scene after the shooting occurred.

Investigators believe one of the men may have been shot during the altercation.

The suspects are described as black men in their late teens or early 20s.
