BARRY COUNTY, Mich. — A Barry County Sheriff’s Office deputy helped deliver a baby after being sent to a home where a woman was in labor.
The woman’s contractions were less than a minute apart and the deputy arrived before any EMS, according to a news release Friday.
The baby boy still had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, and the deputy removed the cord as well as mucous from the baby’s mouth to allow him to breathe.
When the baby wasn’t making any sounds, the deputy gave him a pat on the butt, at which point the infant started crying.
Mom and the baby are doing fine now, the sheriff’s office said.
