MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A woman was found dead Wednesday evening after Barry County Sheriff’s deputies and Nashville police were notified of a possible assault or murder in Maple Grove Township.
The body was found near a home on Guy Road, covered in snow.
One man, Andrew John-Lawrence Lafey of Nashville, Michigan, has been taken into custody.
Police say it is alleged that Lafey beat and shot the woman, who has since been identified as 18-year-old Gracyn-Michael Brickley from Ionia County.
Lafey faces charges of open murder -- a felony and life offense -- and felony firearm, which carries a mandatory two-year prison sentence.
Lafey was arraigned Thursday morning.
A probable cause conference has been set for March 4 at 8:30 a.m. in Hastings District Court.
Bond has been set at $500,000 cash or surety.
Police continue to investigate.
