GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Fire Department just wrapped up the busiest year in its history.

That’s according to Grand Rapids Professional Firefighters Local 366.

The union says that during 2019 Grand Rapids firefighters answered a total of 24,156 alarms, making it the busiest year for total alarms in the department’s 169-year history.

That averages out to more than 66 alarms per day and is 1,751 more alarms than the GRFD responded to in 2018.

There were also a total of 30,636 apparatus responses for the department in 2019.

According to the union: “The proud men and women of Local 366 strive to provide outstanding service on each and every one of these calls ranging from emergency medical services to multiple alarm fires.
