GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Eastbound I-196 at Lake Michigan Drive was closed during the entire morning commute due to a crash.
The entrance ramp from Lake Michigan Drive to I-196 eastbound was also closed.
The driver of a semi rig hauling fructose (a liquid sweetener) told police the trailer load shifted, which caused it to roll off the road and strike the guard rail and two light poles.
Michigan State Police says the driver was taken to the hospital with a minor hand injury.
While the crash occurred just after the Lake Michigan Drive interchange, the freeway was closed at Market Avenue. The Michigan Department of Transportation told FOX 17 News that there was concern that the crash site was in a blind spot on a section of the highway that has a lot of curves.
