GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — With each transition of power, the incoming administration puts their touch on the White House, including decorations in the Oval Office. One company in Grand Rapids helped the past two presidents and is ready to do the same with President Biden.
Scott Group Studio created rugs for both the Obama and Trump administrations, including one featured in President Obama's Oval Office. It's one that is still dear to the team at Scott Group Studio.
“The oval office rug for President Obama is close to my heart,” said Mary Brotebeck, Senior Designer at Scott Group Studio. “It was basically a very simple rug as far as the design goes, and I think what made it very special are the five quotes that went around the perimeter of the rug; the field of it was just very textural, and then of course you have the presidential seal.”
Other rugs made by the company went into the state dining room, the East room, and the private dining room for the Obama family. During the Trump Administration, rugs from Scott Group Studio were used in the Queen's bedroom, yellow oval office and diplomatic reception room.
Scott Group Studio also recreated rugs from President Ford's time in office for the Ford Presidential Museum.
While the Biden administration has not reached out for any work, the company says they are ready when called.
