WASHINGTON D.C. — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the FDA will cease enforcement of the unexpected $14,000 fees that caught local distillers off guard.

Earlier this week, Local distillers were informed they could be responsible for a more than $14,000 fee from the FDA, after helping produced hand sanitizer early on in the pandemic.

In a statement released Thursday night, HHS Chief of Staff Brian Harrison said, “small business who stepped up to fight COVID-19 should be applauded by their government, not taxed for doing so.

“I’m pleased to announce we have directed FDA to cease enforcement of these arbitrary, surprise user fees. Happy New Year, distilleries, and cheers to you for helping keep us safe!” Harrison added.
