GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A West Michigan middle school and company have partnered for an inclusive program in memory of a young man who passed away too soon.
Kyle Oaks-Jerl took his own life in March of 2018 during his eighth grade year.
His family describe him as a fun-loving person who would joke around and do whatever he could to make his friends and family happy.
Kyle's mother, Emily, says that her company, Advantage Research in Grand Rapids, decided to partner with his school for a new outreach program called CREW.
Instead of going to a homeroom, students at Northern Hills Middle School meet and spend time opening up about whatever is troubling them.
While the loss of her son is something Emily deals with every day, groups like CREW keep Kyle's spirit shining on.
