ALLENDALE, Mich. — Grand Valley State University has announced 123 new cases of COVID-19.
Random testing GVSU is doing of asymptomatic students caught 62 of those positive cases.
"Every week we will test between 2,500 and 5,000 individuals," Jean Nagelkerk Vice President of Health at GVSU said.
The other 61 are students who tested positive but were tested off-campus independently.
Students receive an email when they're required to go in and get tested. Based on that randomized testing, about 2.5% of students are getting positive results. But health officials can't calculate GVSU's overall positivity rate, because they don't have the data on how many students get tested independently with negative results.
Right now the university says they don't plan to change anything, saying this increase was expected and is moderate.
