GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Family members identified the woman who was shot and killed while driving in Grand Rapids early Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. near the intersection of 44th and Eastern Ave.
Police say a passenger in the woman’s car shot and killed her while she was driving.
Later that same day, a family member confirmed to FOX 17 that the victim is 30-year-old Tamiqua Wright.
Her family described her as a loving mother of five children, with four boys and one girl. They also said she had a great sense of humor.
"She has a real funny laugh. Really funny. She was just a great mom," a family member told FOX 17.
Family shared photos of Wright on her graduation day and with her mother, who is also passed on.
Wright's death is a heartbreaking addition to a string of losses for the family, who say they have experienced other losses in the past year.
On Friday, the family held a service for another member. Tamiqua Wright's sibling had just arrived home in Georgia after that service, when the terrible news came that Wright had also passed.
Police say the suspect ran away from the scene following the shooting and is still on the run.
Family says they believe they know the person who did this. They suspect that the father of Wright's youngest child is responsible and ask anyone with information to contact Silent Observer.
Details of what led up to the shooting and the name of the suspect have yet to be released.
