GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Grand Rapids woman moved to town in November and wanted to get to know the city. She started by identifying the best places to "go" when "ya gotta go."
It's proven to be quite the artistic journey for Elizabeth Washington.
This story is a bit audacious.
“It’s a little cheeky," Elizabeth Washington, the person behind the Instagram account "grbathrooms," said.
A cheeky story is fitting when talking about places to place your cheeks.
“Whenever I go to a bathroom and it’s a public place, if I think it’s remotely cool, I take pictures of it and I post it,” Washington said.
Washington is in a group chat with others who run accounts like hers.
"I was inspired by Detroit bathrooms, which is an account in Detroit. But also there’s a Washington D.C. bathroom page and a New York bathroom page,” Washington continued.
She documents all sorts of places to go potty.
“The Pack has a really cool wallpaper. I’m a dog mom. So it has a whole bunch of different dog breeds on their wallpaper.”
FOX 17 interviewed Washington in a place where most prefer privacy: the loo at Last Mile Cafe in Grand Rapids.
“This bathroom is super cool. I love that you get the whole comic book feel when you’re in here,” Washington said.
As luck would have it, the local artist who did the work on the bathroom was at the Last Mile Cafe the same day FOX 17 was shooting the story with Washington.
Scoob did the work with his brother to give you something to look at besides your phone.
“They had such a bland bathroom," the local artist said.
Creativity is needed for a place where you can only imagine what happens.
“Ended up going with an idea where it’ll make you feel like you’re stepping in another dimension, like everything has just changed. They loved the idea. [It] took us about two weeks to get it done,” Scoob said.
That bathroom project took weeks longer than most business in the bathroom does.
