PORTLAND, Mich. — One person is dead following an early morning crash on I-96 near Kent Street in Portland.
Michigan State Police say that crash happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The driver was headed westbound on I-96 when their vehicle veered off the road, struck a tree, and caught fire.
Once the fire was extinguished, troopers found the driver's body inside. They were the sole occupant of the vehicle.
It's not yet known if the driver was wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash or if alcohol or drugs were involved.
The incident remains under investigation.
