2-year-old drowns in swimming pool in Ionia

IONIA, Mich. — A two-year-old in Ionia was found dead in his swimming pool last night, according to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Deputies from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Public Safety Officers from the Ionia Department of Public Safety and LIFE EMS, were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of E. Washington Street in Ionia for the report of a 2-year-old child found unresponsive in a swimming pool at the residence.

Immediate life-saving actions were performed on the child in an attempt for revival, and the child was transported via LIFE EMS to Sparrow Hospital in Ionia.

At the hospital, life-saving interventions continued but were unsuccessful, as the child was pronounced deceased

The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigate the incident, including coordinating with Michigan Child Protective Services.

There is no indication of foul play at this time, and the exact circumstances of how this incident occurred is being investigated.

Further details will not be released until the conclusion of the investigation, as the case has been sent to the Ionia County Prosecutor for review.
